HOME & ABOUT US

About us:  First Baptist of Hicks Addition (FBC)
 75 blessed years of
service
“God’s call comes before your qualifications.”

In 1950, a small group of believers established the First Baptist Church of Hicks Addition,
never imagining the lasting impact their church would have on countless lives. Despite
lacking a pastor and a physical building, they pressed on, trusting in God’s call.
They dedicated everything to His glory and collected their first offering for missions.

The church was originally established in the home of one of its members at
3303 Wright Avenue in Spencer, Oklahoma. This location served as the church's
first gathering place.  By 1952, the congregation had grown significantly,
which necessitated a move to a larger space in another  member's home at
3208 N. Post Road, also in Spencer.  As the church continued to expand,
a dedicated building was constructed at 3300 N. Post Road in Spencer, Oklahoma.

The first pastor was Rev. Simmons, who served from 1951 to 1953. He was followed
by Rev. Nunley, who led the church from 1953 to 1955, and then by Rev. White from
1955 to 1956. In 1956, Rev. Mitchell was called to lead the church, during which time
the building was expanded by 50 feet. Rev. Mitchell served until 1962, after which
Rev. Dillard took over from 1962 to 1963. Following him, Rev. B.T. Wilson served from
1963 to 1968, overseeing improvements that included the installation of a water well
 and additional bathrooms.

In 1968, Rev. Willie Jones became the pastor. Under his leadership, the church installed
central air and heating, a baptismal, and a kitchen. He served from 1968 to 1975.
Rev. W.B. Woodberry then served from 1975 to 2010, becoming the first full-time
pastor on December 14, 1975. During his tenure, a new members class, a Bible study class,
mobile meals, and a tape ministry were established. Additionally, 2 acres of land and a
parsonage were purchased, and a building fund was created. In 1984, the church moved
 into a new sanctuary.

In August 2010, Dr. Craig A. Finley became the ninth pastor of the church. Under his
leadership, the congregation experienced remarkable growth as he introduced innovative
ideas to enhance their spiritual experience. During his tenure, the church acquired a new
sound system, an organ, and television monitors for the sanctuary. A security system
was also installed.  Additionally, the heating and air-conditioning systems were repaired or
replaced, the church offices were updated, and the old sanctuary, bathrooms, kitchen,
and hall were remodeled. New carpeting was installed, improvements were made to the
parking lot, virtual capabilities were incorporated, and an early facility pay-off plan was
 implemented.

    Matthew 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Our Vision:  First Baptist will be a church community within the local community
ministering the whole gospel of Jesus Christ for the whole person.

Our Mission: The First Baptist Church is committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus
Christ to those who do not have a personal relationship with Him, through preaching,
teaching, and evangelism, and disciple them to responsible church membership.
